FLOSSMOOR - What a good event the McLegends was this weekend in the south suburbs of Chicago. Now, you may be asking yourself what is a McLegend?  McLegends has a deep care and concern of basketball, long after having graduated from high school.

This basketball tournament lived up to its billing starting Friday night, which was family night. All families of 5 or more paid a total of $10 (or $2 each). What a bargain in this economy.

The first game to tipped off in front of over 1,500 fans featuring the 2009 high school girls All-Stars vs. the Lady McLegends. The Lady McLegends were coached by St. Xavier University women's coach Bob Hallberg, while the high school girls were coach by AAU, Lady Wolverines, Ron Newquist.

The game was considered physical, from the point of view of an exhibition, but neither side was willing to step down in the contest. In the end, the Lady McLegends won 100-88, but there were no losers on this night.

Last year, the High School All-Stars defeated the Lady McLegends for the first time in the game's history. This time around coach Newquist knew his team would be prepared for a full-fledge exhibition battle.  He (Newquist) wasn't disappointed with his team's effort, although, he would have liked to have won the game. "I told the girls as long as we come out in the second half and play with intensity and stay in the game, I'll be proud of them," he said. "It's an All-Star game, sure, and you still want to win, but I can honestly say that coaching these girls has really been a privilege. They really worked hard."

The game also marked the very first time that the Mighty Macs of Mother McAuley were represented including Anne McDonald-Lotito, Kristyn Corley, Katie Boyce and Bridget Boyce-Schreiber. And as expected, Nadia Bibbs

(2003 Hillcrest/Northwestern) and Missy Mitidiero (2003 Marian Catholic/DePaul) had big games leading to this victory.

And at halftime, we were treated to the Jesse White Tumblers and the James Hart junior high pompon teams.
