Now for the action this weekend... There were seven ranking upsets (meaning teams with lower seeds (placement) beating  higher ranked teams), but all of the top ranked teams won.

The playoffs got started with a Richton Park hosting a late kick-off over at Brother Rice High School with the Raider widgets winning 21-0 over Hazel Crest. In the next contest, Riverside got two scores and were able to hold of the Raiders with a 12-0 victory.

In the junior varsity game, Country Club Hills Cougars got on the board first. This was short lived because the Raiders responded with a score as well on a 87 yard run. Then there was a chess match were both teams matched the other strategy taking the things to overtime, were the Cougars were able to score and advance to the junior varsity championship game next week 13-7.

In the final game at Brother Rice field, Hazel Crest score early and often winning the game 34 - 0 over the Raiders.

South Holland Jets continue to play big winning three of four games and scoring a total of 90 points on the afternoon. Their day started with the Widgets playing University Park Lions who got going on the athletic ability of Jahreal Williams who had a burst for 67 yards for a touchdown and the Widgets win 26-0.

Next up were the commonly called "Showtime" PeeWee team, who continue to exploded offensively on the legs of Mr. Darshon McCullough, who scored on a 56 yard touchdown just 18 seconds into the game. He also scored again in the second quarter. The PeeWees went on the win 27-7. LISTEN to our post game interview with the PeeWee head coach... click here!

At the junior varsity level, Jets took on the Matteson Bears. On the Jets first possession, the Bears were able to intercept a pass by Desmond Reeves but were able to capitalize on the turnover. The Jets took advantage on their very next possession with a 66 yard touchdown run by Anthony Ries. Extra point good by

Pharez Israel. The Jets held the Bears offense to four plays and brought their offense right back on the field. That's when Mr. Dominic Christian galloped 33 yards for touchdown at the 4 minute mark in the second. The Jets continued to move the ball and stop the Bears offensively winning the contest 19-0.

In the final contest on the afternoon, The Jets hosted the Chicago Cardinals. As it was told, this was a good old fashion football game with both teams playing very tough and making all of the necessary adjustments, but when the dust settled, the Cardinals held on to win 19-18 in a nail biter which included a questionable call in the endzone.

The Markham Patriots also won three of their four contest.

Coming into this weekends first round of the playoffs, Markham Patriots widgets have won 21 games in a row combining their record currently to 12-0 last year & 9-0 so far this season. Thus, the widgets continue to roll with a 34 - 7 victory over Country Club Hills, while the PeeWee teams needed overtime to get the win 13-12...

but at the end of the day, a 'W' is a 'W' no matter when you get it. Next up was JV - Markham vs Riverside... The Patriots offense continue to exploded and grab an early lead and never let go winning the contest 33-6 to advance.

The final contest of the afternoon was Riverside vs Country Club Hills. The Colts were able to advance with a 27-6 victory.

Over at muddy Rich Central high school, Chicago Cardinals jumped out early and dominated the Eastside Bulldogs 25-6 to advance to the widget championship game. The next contest (PeeWee) was between the Matteson Bears and the Eastside Bulldogs. In this contest, it took just one score for a team to advance and when the final whistle blew, it was the Bears... 6-0.

Now it was junior varsity time... Eastside  vs. Chicago, and again, it only took one score to decide the winner. In this case, it was the Bulldogs 6-0 to advance. To conclude the games on the afternoon over at Rich Central, the Mattson Bears varsity continue to roll beating the Bulldogs 38-0.

Just 3:30 into the contest Mr. Ahmad McClellan got the Bears on the board with a short 1 yard run. McClellan scored again later in the first quarter on a 7 yard run. But on the very next possession, Eastside return a kickoff over 60 yards down to the 11 with a touchdown saving tackle by Preston Thompson.

After a couple of plays deep in their red zone, the Bears came up with a huge finger tip interception. The Bears were not able to capitalize on the turnover. But on their next possession, Mr. Justin Walters galloped 80 yards for a score still in the first quarter.

See guys next weekend, Championship weekend, at Kankakee High School!
