Can undefeated Marian Catholic defeat Carmel?  Unfortunately no, as the Spartans come up short against the visiting Carmel (1-2) team 41-7.

Carmels' offensive leaders were
Darrius Crump, who had 8 carries for 82 yards and 2 TDs and Nick Gandolfo added 136 yards passing, 38 yards rushing and 3 total TDs.

This is still a good start for the Spartans who's current record, 2-1, is better than last season under new, first-year coach Jerry Verde, and they are making solid progress in the stingy and competitive ECC.

Coach Verde was the architect of Crete-Monee’s Class 6A championship run last season and seems to have brought that mentality to Chicago Heights.
