If you slept on last season's Prep Bowl Kick-off, you might want to think twice about missing this season's event.

To refresh your memory, Simeon and Morgan Park went into Soldier Field and upset highly regarded Mount Carmel and Providence to start off a surprising season.

The two Public League leaders have a chance to do it again this season and a new comer has a chance to strike first.

Simeon will face Mount Carmel in the opening game on August 26, starting at 2:30 p.m.
A season ago, it was the Wolverine's going on an 11-0 victory run which got started against the Caravan on this same field. And the Wolverine's are bringing back the heart and soul of both sides of the ball... quarterback Robert Gregory, lineman Jordan Diamond and linebacker Shaquille Joyner.

For the Caravan, they have two-way star Brandon Greer (running back / defensive back) is back with lots of energy and focus. Last season, he got a taste of playing downstate but watching him still in practice, he's hungrier than ever.

Providence take on Morgan Park. Providence will look to avoid the upset two seasons in a row at 5:15 p.m. against the Mustangs. We had two teams starting fresh... one with a new coach and philosophy, the other putting a not so-good season behind them. Morgan Park Mustangs tried to start a new tradition under the reigns of Jeremy Gold. Coach Gold has brought his skills from Michigan to take over the team from long-time coach Lex Spurlock and he's doing it without transfer star player DaeShaun Hurley, who transferred to Julian.

Providence aims to rebound after a not so good season (2-7). This was the first time they didn't make the playoffs since 1990.

To close the night, St. Ignatius will face Whitney Young at 8 p.m.

We will also be at several fields around the Chicagoland area including....

Crete-Monee at T.F. South
The teams have split the past two games including the Rebels capturing a 19-17 win last year. This year, both teams have inexperienced QBs - Warriors are starting junior Marcus Terrell, and the Rebels will showcase either Payton Padgen or Marlon Harris. But the Rebels will rely heavily on running back Giovanni Canty in order to capture an opening season victory.

Lincoln-Way Central at Lincoln-Way North
North defeated the Central last year 21-13. Knights have to get the ball moving through the air with their one-two punch of Kevin Ward and Matt Doherty, then if RB Brett Ditchman can get going... whew, they will be tough! North, BIG Eric Knaperek is one of the best sleeper blockers in the south suburbs. He make BIG holes for his back such as Jake Dixon.

In addition, this season's games honor the First Responders in the Chicago area.

"We are especially pleased to honor the contribution of the men and women of the Chicago area police, fire, and emergency services departments," said Mount Carmel coach Frank Lenti in a release. "While playing these games in this historic building is privilege, it is important for our student athletes to recognize the heroic contributions the First Responders make in all of our daily lives."
