Practice does make perfect. Tuesday night the Hawks half-court trap defense proved this theory correct trapping the Warriors causing 25 total turnovers.

"It's hard to prepare for," Hillcrest head coach Don Houston said of his team's defense. "You can put five guys out there in practice, but can they really simulate what we do?"

Hillcrests' Julius Brown had a game-high 22 points, including three 3-pointers. Teammate Eric Gaines added 10 points and seven boards.

 "I think (Crete) had an off night, but we prepared ourselves well for this game," Brown said. "We knew this was a big bragging rights game, because we know a lot of their guys. We wanted to be ready."

On the other side of the ball, Kentrell King and Ray Lester each scored 13 points to lead the Warriors.

Mother McAuley 66, Rich Central 61
Usually when someone has a double-double consisting of 25 points, 10 boards plus 6 blocks they win... well not Tuesday night as the Olympians took on the Mother McAuley.

NOTE: Those were senior Janae Smith's stats on Tuesday night.

McAuley rallied from a nine-point first-half deficit and hung 42 second-half points on RC to obtain a 66-61, non-conference victory.

"We just played together great in the second half," said McAuley junior forward Margaret Wildner, who had 10 of her team-high 11 points in the final 16 minutes. "It's a big step for our team. We played so badly early. It's nice to be able to come back strong like this. In the end I guess they ended up falling apart."
