Boys Class 4A Sectional Finals at Argo High School - tip off at 7:30pm
In front of a mostly pro-Marist crowd of 2,400-plus fans, Simeon used their athleticism to dominate in the Sectional finals at Argo over Marist 65-44.

The Wolverines (30-1) battled a frenzied Marist crowd that showed its enthusiasm by singing the entire national anthem. The RedHawks (26-6) came out firing on the play of senior point guard Tyler Oden. The 5-foot-7 Oden (15 points) hit a pair of 3-pointers to keep the RedHawks in the game with eight first-quarter points.

The RedHawks led 17-16 after Nic Weishar's 3-pointer with 6 minutes, 3 seconds left in the second quarter. But the Wolverines clamped down on defense with stifling man-to-man halfcourt pressure and started throwing the ball inside to capitalize on a decided size difference in the frontcourt.

Simeon junior guard Kendrick Nunn (16 points) drilled a 3-pointer to open the offensive floodgates, igniting a 21-1 run that spilled into a 38-17 lead until Marist ended a 10-possession drought without a field goal. The Wolverines finished with nine steals and eight blocks.

Nunn hit a pair of 3s for nine second-quarter points and Jabari Parker added two thundering dunks, including a slam at the buzzer for a 36-17 halftime lead.

The RedHawks battled back with a 10-0 run in the fourth to cut the deficit to 51-39, but Simeon squashed Marist's glass slipper by allowing five points in the final six-plus minutes.

But overall, Simeon's senior Steve Taylor played one of his best games of the season, dominating both ends of the court. The Marquette recruit had nine points, 11 rebounds and four blocks.

The Wolverines advance to play Evanston in a supersectional at Chicago State on Tuesday.

"This is probably the best defensive team since I got into coaching," Smith said. "They can play man-to-man or zone. They just wanted it tonight."
