| FLOSSMOOR - The Class 4A Regional title was on the line Thursday night in Homewood-Flossmoor where the Joliet Steelwomen (19-10) came out victorious over the H-F Lady Vikings (18-9) in a nail biter turned runaway game. Marissa Draper led the score board with |
|
| 23 points for Joliet. Mariah Stamps chipped in with 10 points followed by Dominique Carr and Adjoa Matthews both with 8 points. Jailyn Norris led H-F with 17 points followed by Simone Matthews and Cici Shannon with 10 points. |

The sophomore Lady Viking’s Jailyn
Norris was on fire the first quarter leading the boards with 7 points
including a shot from downtown. Draper quickly answered back holding
the Lady Vikings to a slim 1 point lead at the close of the first
quarter. The rest of the first half was a nail bitter that ended in a
tie 23-23.
|
The Steelwomen turn up the heat in the third quarter with a 16-9 run lead by 5’8 Draper and junior Matthews giving them a comfortable 7 point lead going into the final quarter.
| The fourth quarter was extremely physical as both teams gave it all they had. Unfortunately, for the Lady Vikings, besides the 3 pointer by 5’8 Senior Simone Mathews and shot from Jailyn Norris, they just couldn’t get the shots needed to hold off the Steelwomen. Draper and the ladies from Joliet went to work and stunned the crowd with a 23-11 run on the Vikings. |

You can definitely tell both teams wanted to win. According to Ms. Marissa Draper added “This was revenge. Also with this being my last year, this was the last chance to go down state. We just wanted it more…I am so excited.” Coach Plechaty noted that “the girls were able to adjust better today and change up the defense on the fly….They did a good job tonight!” |
Final Score Joliet 62 - Homewood-Flossmoor 43
Congratulations to the Steelwomen of Joliet and to both teams on a great season!
