Here's our update....

SATURDAY’S STATE PLAYOFF GAMES
CLASS 6A
Richards 31,
Argo 0
After leading only 6-0 at halftime, Richards dominated the second half, scoring 25 unanswered points against Argo.

Wide-out Tacari Carpenter fumbled in the red zone during the first quarter, regrouped in the second half, and dominated against Argo's secondary on the powerful arm of quarterback Hasan Muhammad-Rogers. Carpenter hauled in nine passes for 191 yards and three touchdowns.

“As a quarterback, sometimes you gotta know where the ball needs to be and know who’s the superstar — he’s a superstar,” Muhammad-Rogers said of Carpenter. “He made magic.”

An example of his magic was on the first play after halftime, Muhammad-Rodgers hit Carpenter on a short pass. Carpenter turned, shook off a few Argo defenders and hit the jets for a 76-yard touchdown.

“I didn’t make a lot of plays in the first half, and I got a little angry,” Carpenter said. “I wanted it bad. You have to have a nose for the end zone. I had a nose for the end zone and that’s all I wanted to do.”

With this win, the Bulldogs advanced to the Class 6A quarterfinals and will host Lincoln-Way North next week.

Phillips 31, Evergreen Park 21
Phillips 31-21 victory over top-seeded Evergreen Park Saturday night sent shock waves through the Class 4A bracket.
Behind the fine play of Dewayne Collins, who finished 13-of-19 for 137 yards and two touchdowns and running 34 times for 122 yards and two scores led the team to victory.

“We were pumped,” Phillips quarterback Dewayne Collins said. “Evergreen beat us earlier this season so this was a big rematch for us and a chance to make school history.”

Collins favorite target tonight was Quayvon Skanes, who caught two touchdowns from 11 and 31 yards, and finished with eight catches for 117 yards.

Phillips (8-3) advances to play Geneseo in the 4A quarterfinals, the first time in program history the Wildcats have advanced that far.

Too much Julian Hylton for Rich Central, as they fall 38-6 against Lincoln-Way North. Hylton ran for 214 yards and two touchdowns Friday night.

After going three-and-out on their first possession, the Phoenix (10-1) scored on their next three possessions to take a 21-0 lead, of which, Hylton had touchdown runs of 37 and 25 yards and helped drive North to Rich Central's 3, where quarterback Ryan Arthur ran for a touchdown.

"I was just getting what the line was giving me," said Hylton, who has rushed for more than 2,300 yards. "I know (the line) is working hard for me, so I'm going to work hard for those guys. I love those guys. And I feel like we're getting stronger and stronger."

Marist 21, Bolingbrook 7
Marist (8-3) upset top-seeded Bolingbrook (10-1) Friday night with a 21-7 victory and eliminated them in the second round of the Class 7A playoffs.

The Raiders tied the game right before halftime at 7-7, and took that momentum into the second half, was marching the ball deep into Marist territory, but a penalty changed everything. And shortly after this, they attempted a 36-yard field goal but a low snap helped Marist's Adam Miller to successfully block the attempt.

On this possession, the RedHawks drove the length of the field and scored, on a Peter Andreotti’s 1-yard run on fourth-and-goal with 7:25 left, taking and holding the lead (14-7) from this point on.

Two plays later, Bolingbrook fullback Jaden Huff was struggling for extra yardage when the ball was stripped by Marist defensive backs Ryan Mishka and Jawill Aldridge. Linebacker Nic Weisher caught the ball at the 32 and circled around to the right side and into the end zone to make it 21-7. Weishar finished with 5 balls for 58 yards, and a 33-yard fumble return for a TD.

“I’m proud of our guys, every unit, offense, defense, special teams,” Marist coach Pat Dunne said. “A lot of stuff in this game could have gone either way, and our guys persevered. Something I thought coming in was that we had to move the ball and get time of possession in our favor. We did that, and our defense came through with big stops throughout the night.”

The RedHawks' Jack Donegan went 14-for-22, 136 yards and 1 INT.

Next week: 8A quarterfinal, Marist vs. Oswego/Waubonsie Valley.

CLASS 7A
Mount Carmel 20, St. Rita 15
Caravan advanced with a win over cross-town rival, Mustangs, with a 20-15 victory.

And it was Illinois-bound Matt Domer who scored the winning touchdown from 10 yards out on an 87-yard drive.

Domer finished the game with 30 times for 259 yards.

“When they score, you’re down a little bit, you always get a little second-guessing,” said Domer, who was in his second game back after missing three with a knee injury. “But with my guys ... we knew there was a lot of time left on the clock. We were we [were] going to pull through.”

St. Rita did have a couple of outstanding highlights including a 70-yard catch by Julian Crum from Tommy Mister. Mister finished the game 9-for-21, 135 yards.

Mount Carmel advanced to a quarterfinal matchup on the road against Downers Grove North.
