It's that time already... P-L-A-Y-O-F-F time here in the State of Illinois! The high school games kick off this Friday night, November 1 and continue to Saturday...

Rankings... bracket injustice... and bias selections, and from all of this, lots of schools ands fans are upset, then you top that off with late losses by top-ranked schools, like Loyola, which played a BIG roll in the bracket selections.

So naturally lots of questions are posed: Can the Caravan repeat? Can Loyola make a nice, strong run? Is Bolingbrook just that good? Can dark horse Evergreen Park continue their winning ways? Or can Southland long shots, Crete-Monee or Rich Central, make a nice run?

Only one way to find out... TO PLAY THE GAME!!!!

Here's this weekends' schedule.... See ya on the sidelines!

NOTE: Teams in our coverage area are in

FRIDAY’S STATE PLAYOFF GAMES
CLASS 8A
Plainfield South 28, Marist 64

Sandburg 14, Homewood-Flossmoor 49
Almost a repeat from Week 6, as Homewood-Flossmoor defeats Sandburg 49-14 to advance to second round. The Eagles were unable to to keep H-F’s offense on the sidelines.

CLASS 7A
Benet 6, Mount Carmel 49
Mount Carmel made it look easy and routine as they knocked off Benet Friday night 49-6.

Marko Boricich, who threw nine touchdown passes in the regular season, had three in the first 1 1/2 quarters Friday night. And Matt Domer, sidelined the past three weeks with a knee injury, returned to run for two more scores.

Then there’s Christian Searles, who scored three touchdowns in a span of less than four minutes of the first quarter.

“The touchdowns don’t come too often for me so they’re all great,” Searles said. “But the pick-six was my best because they threw a hitch a couple plays before and I was like I can’t give up another hitch.”

This win sets up a rematch rival St. Rita in the second round. The Caravan, which hasn’t played the Mustangs in the IHSA playoffs since 2005, handed St. Rita its only regular-season loss, 24-3.

Willowbrook 6, St. Rita 34
Slow start for both teams, but the Mustangs got their traction and stanpeeded Willowbrook 34-6 to advance to the second round Friday night.

Only a one-point game in the second-half, 7-6, St Rita pinned Willowbrook deep, and three plays later, Martin Bechina intercepted a Brian Johnson pass at the 40, leading to a St. Rita score. This score opened the barn, and the Mustangs, began to rout the visitors. Tommy Mister rushed 23 times for 110 yards and TDs of 3. 35 and 1 yard. He also completed three passes for 42 yards.

On the other side of the ball, St Rita's defense sacked Johnson six times, four by John Connolly.

Brian Johnson was 6-for-21 for 51 yards and one TD to Hayden Adams.

John Kelly kicked field goals of 23 and 27 yards for St. Rita.

Up next, Mount Carmel in round two.

Edwardsville 59, Andrew 28

Lincoln-Way East 31, Plainfield East 0

CLASS 6A
Oak Forest 12, Argo 14

T.F. South 6, Lincoln-Way North 41
Special teams sparked a Lincoln-Way North win over T.F. South 41-6 Friday night.

The Phoenix blocked consecutive punts in the first quarter that led to scores and ignited an easy 41-6 win over the visiting Rebels in a Class 6A first-round tilt.

Julian Hylton added 159 yards rushing on 30 carries and four touchdowns, covering 1, 24, 1 and 8 yards.

North (9-1) will take on Rich Central (9-1), an 18-14 winner over Romeoville, in the second round.

Romeoville 14, Rich Central 18
It was interesting to see how the Olympians (9-1) bounce back after their crushing defeat to Crete-Monee in Week 9. On a slippery track, Rich Central and Romeoville traded scores on each possession in the first half, and the second half was all about field position. But in the end, the Olympians were able to hold the Spartans in the redzone, which proved to be winning defensive hold.

The Olympians travel up Vollmer Road to Lincoln-Way North for the second round of the playoffs.

CLASS 1A
Leo 36, Gibson City-Melvin Sibley 0
Terron Bell, Michael Conley and quarterback Malik Prince each scored rushing touchdowns in the win for Leo (8-2).

SATURDAY’S STATE PLAYOFF GAMES
CLASS 8A
Lane 7, Loyola 48
Jack Penn threw 2 touchdowns and ran for another, as Julius Holley added 71 rush yards and a TD for Loyola (9-1).

(16) Bloom (5-4) at (1) Bolingbrook (9-0), 6
The Blazing Trojans (5-4) defense is legit, but if they’re going to pull off the upset, the offense must do its fair share. That means RB Justus Brantley, QB Jordan Benavides and WR Zerrel Jackson step up. Bolingbrook’s defense, which has allowed just 55 points all season, is led by DB Parrker Westphal and LB Tuf Borland. Offensively, the Raiders (9-0) alternate at QB between Quincy Woods and Dariel Greer. When it’s time to go to the air, it’s generally Greer under center, with Woods split out at receiver. RB Jaden Huff is a load to bring down. James Coleman and Co. will have their hands full containing the Raiders offense.

CLASS 6A
Yorkville 0, Richards 44

Providence 25, Crete-Monee 14
As I stated prior to this contest, Providence 5-4 record, in order other conference would probably be 9-0 or 8-1 at best considering they play in 'SEC' of Illinois High School football - the Catholic Blue.

And on Saturday afternoon, they dug deep after trailing at halftime, and rallied to defeat defending Class 6A champions Crete-Monee 25-14.

Providence scored the game's first 12 points on a touchdown, field goal and then a safety before the Warriors got things going, when sophomore quarterback Clint Ratkovich (22 carries, 88 yards), scored with a 2-yard run to put Crete on the board. Ratkovich was in for the injured starter Frank Douglass. Shortly after that, All-State linebacker Nyles Morgan returned an interception 53 yards to give the Warriors a 14-12 halftime lead.

"We had three days to install an entire new offense," Crete-Monee coach John Konecki said. "The kids took to it. In the end there we're asking a guy who's not a seasoned thrower to try to throw a little bit. I don't think the kids have anything to be upset about. We battled."

The Celtics adjusted at halftime to Ratkovich and his style of play, and at the 2-minute, 18-second mark of the third quarter to reclaim the lead on a 3-yard run by Dominic Lagone.

It was Dominic Lagone (41 carries, 171 yards), who scored on a 3-yard run early in the fourth quarter to put Crete in a hole its passing game couldn't climb out of.

CLASS 5A
