Rich Central 28, Kankakee 24

Crete-Monee 45, Rich South 6
If offense sells tickets and defense wins games, the 7-1 the Warriors totally proved this theory Friday night against Rich South, as they easily beat them 45-6.

Chris Jernigan, Chris Slayton and Nyles Morgan sparked a swarming Crete-Monee defense that limited Rich South to a single first down in the opening half.

Crete-Monee turned an eight-point lead into a blowout in 10 seconds. Raphael Vallot scored on a 67-yard pass from Frank Douglas (202 passing yards), the Warriors recovered the ensuing onside kick and Trevon Smith ran 49 yards for a score on the next play to give his team a 30-6 advantage.

Smith led the running back by-committee approach with 105 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.

Rich South (1-7, 0-4) scored on a 48-yard fumble recovery from Tevin Sudduth, who also added three tackles for loss and four receptions for 33 yards.

Next week... it's winner take ALL in the Southland conference -undefeated Rich Central host one-loss cross-town nemesis Crete-Monee.

Providence Catholic 0, Mount Carmel 14
The Caravan used their running game to get their final victory of the regular season against the Celtics, 14-0, on the legs of Jimmy Mickens and Jaquan Buntyn. Mickens was the workhorse, rushing for 118 yards on 31 carries, including 5-yard TD run in the second quarter to give his team a 7-0 lead.

The Caravan (7-1, 3-1 Catholic Blue) was without feature running back Matt Domer (knee injury) for the second game in a row. The Celtics (4-4, 1-1) need a win against Brother Rice next week to avoid missing the playoffs for the second time in four years

St. Rita 38, Brother Rice 35
St. Rita has redemption on its mind after suffering two defeats to Brother Rice last season: 23-21 and 34-30. Not only that, but with undefeated Loyola on tap in Week 9, the Mustangs need a win here to keep alive its hopes of garnering a piece of the Catholic Blue title. Quarterback Tommy Mister (103 carries, 858 yards, 16 TDs) is the go-to guy carrying the rock, but running backs D.J. Miles and Jovaughn Sparks warrant attention. Rice running back Marcus Jones is coming off a 250-yard performance vs. Bishop McNamara. Quarterback Alex Alarcon (105 of 195, 1,283 yards) and receiver Luke Mueller are dangerous.

Benet 21, Marist 49
Marist (5-3,4-2) took advantage of seven Benet turnovers in the first half to open an astounding 42-7 lead after two quarters in the East Suburban shocker. Marist converted five of those turnovers into touchdowns.

Nic Weishar had an interception return for a touchdown and a touchdown reception. He barely missed a third score after being tackled at the 1-yard line on an interception return. Weishar finished with nine catches for 90 yards.

“It’s one of our team goals to force turnovers and tonight we really did the job,” said Weishar after the game.

On the other side of the ball, the RedHawk defense and special teams which produced eight turnovers on the game leading to 35 points. Besides Weishar’s two interceptions, Ryan Mishka had two picks as well.

Marist quarterback Jack Donegan was 20-of-27 for 279 yards with three touchdowns. Flynn Nagel had six catches for 144 yards and three touchdowns.

Homewood-Flossmoor 54, Lockport 14
The Vikings bounced back big Friday night with a 54-14 victory over Lockport. Isaac Cutrara threw for a season-high five touchdowns and Devonte Harley-Hampton scored four as the Vikings bounced back from last week's overtime loss to Bolingbrook with the big win on the road. Homewood-Flossmoor improved to 7-1 and 5-1 in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. The Porters fell to 2-6, 2-4.

"We had a good week of practice [following the Bolingbrook loss] and came out hot on offense. Devonte is a speedster and he stepped up and played a heck of a game," Cutrara shared after the game.

Lincoln-Way East 3, Bolingbrook 12
Slow start... late surge... what... The Raiders stay undefeated defeating Lincoln-Way East, 12-3, and secure a share of the SouthWest Suburban Blue title.

Tthe Raiders had Tuf Borland and a bunch of other relentless defenders and that was all they needed. Borland had two of the Raiders’ three interceptions — they also recovered two fumbles by the Griffins — and returned one for the clinching touchdown with 6:54 left in the game.

“We just kept battling and battling and battling and finally got some points on the board in the second half,” said Borland, a sophomore linebacker who already is a two-year starter.
