Rich Central 12, Bloom 10
Talk about a conference battle... Rich Central comes from behind to snag a 12-10 win over crosstown nemesis Bloom Saturday afternoon.

It was Michael Hoover's 3-yard touchdown run with 4:16 remaining in the game was the difference in the contest that left the Olympians perfect on the season (5-0, 1-0). Jeremiah Mitchell recovered a fumble at the Bloom 33-yard line, setting up Hoover's game-winning score.

But the Blazing Trojans had a chance to win the game when they were faced with a fourth-and-5 from the Rich Central 10 and 1:54 remaining, Bloom coach Tony Palombi elected to attempt a pass instead of trying a game-winning 27-yard field goal, though kicker Marquis Jones had converted from the same distance earlier.

"He's a first-year kicker and I didn't want to put that pressure on him," said Bloom's coach Palombi after the game.

Senior Ahmad McClellan had 106 yards on 19 carries for Rich Central.

Benet 40, Marian Catholic 7
Jack Beneventi (13-23, 156 yards) and Brad Sznajder (16 carries, 124 yards, 2 TDs) led Benet (5-0, 2-0).

Crete-Monee 53, Rich East 12
Big bounceback game for the Warriors as they knock off conference foe, Rockets, 53-12 on Saturday afternoon.

This win included two kickoff returns for touchdowns, including one to open the game as it pulled away from Rich East.

“Wednesday is our special teams day, and we reiterated their importance,” Crete-Monee coach John Konecki said. “We want to be aggressive in all three aspects of our game, but our special teams can be really dynamic.”

Mount Carmel 24, St. Rita 3
Just when you thought the Caravan will be slowed, they kicked things into another gear, Friday night against conference rival, St. Rita, and knocked them off 24-3.

Illinois-bound back Matt Domer motored for 166 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries, and quarterback Marko Boricich added 117 yards on 11 rushes as Mount Carmel (5-0, 2-0) piled up 364 yards on the ground and earned the 700th win in program history. Only East St. Louis (886) has more in Illinois.

On the other side of the ball, MC was able to stall quarterback Tommy Mister and the Mustangs' offense. Mister finished with 48 yards on 21 carries, his rushing stats diminished by two big losses on bad snaps. The senior was 10-of-25 passing for 154 yards with two interceptions, by Connolly and Christian Searles.

"We definitely keyed [on] him," Domer said of Mister. "Our defense, they're monsters, so they came in and played big."

Homewood-Flossmoor 24, Lincoln-Way East 21
Two undefeated teams met, one stayed unfeated as the Vikings defeated the Griffins 24-21. The Vikings (5-0, 3-0 in the Southwest Suburban Blue) erased a 14-7 deficit by scoring 17 points in a row for the win over the Griffins (4-1, 2-1).

As Lincoln-Way East was driving late with a little over 2 minutes to play, H-F's Will Daniels intercepted the ball to stop their drive. Daniels scored on the play but the touchdown was called back because of a block in the back penalty. The Vikings were still able to run out the clock and seal the deal.

The rushing attach of sophomore twins DeVante Harley-Hampton and Dante Harley-Hampton combined for 107 yards to complement Nutt, and a steady day by quarterback Isaac Cutrara (8-for-17, 133 yards, 2 TD).

Vikings senior running back Vashon Nutt had had 11 carries for 125 yards, including a 66-yard TD run.

"We fought hard and this just shows how much work we put in. This was a game of a lifetime and people would die to play in a game like this." -- Nutt said.

Bishop McNamara 34, St. Laurence 7
Frank Miller had 19 carries for 133 yards in the loss for Laurence (3-2, 0-1).

De La Salle 42, St. Joseph 7
Mikale Wilbon had 6 carries for 244 yards and 5 TDs (of 36, 38, 45, 46 and 67 yards), and Will Zopp added 6 carries for 39 yards and 1 TD for DLS (4-1). Brandon Johnson had 12 carries for 116 yards and scored on an 88-yard run in the third quarter for St. Joe's.

Lemont 24, Tinley Park 17
Lemont (2-3) was down 17-3 at halftime. Julio Aleman had 2 touchdown carries, including the clincher with 4:36 left in the game.

Sandburg 40, Joliet Central 0
Sean Leland threw 3 TD passes for Sandburg (4-1).

Reavis 26, Shepard 7
Travis Liszewski had 28 carries for 186 yards and 1 TD, Calvin Jordan added 14 carries for 153 yards and 1 TD, and Isiah Alpuche had 79 receiving yards and 2 TDs for Reavis (3-2, 2-1).
