![]() Brother Rice vs. Mount Carmel (Friday at Gately - 7p) This is a BIG bounce back game for the Brother Rice Crusaders after losing to St. Rita last week 21-17. The Crusaders must open up their air attack and hit the turf running with Andrew and Martez Walker in order to snag a victory. On the other side of the ball, Mount Carmel has proved that they can battle in the trenches running and airing it out... This one will be tough... T.F. SOUTH AT BREMEN (Friday at 7p) Bremen hopes to continue their winning ways behind the play of QB Cedric Clemons (16-of-32, 310 yards) keeps getting better and better and RB David Smith (53, 387) could be ready for an explosive performance. The Rebels are somewhat desperate team. A loss here and they can pretty much kiss their playoff dreams goodbye. Running back Giovanni Canty (59, 256) will need to carry the load for T.F. South, which would benefit greatly from a consistent night by QB Marlon Harris (13-of-37, 279 yards). TINLEY PARK AT LEMONT (Friday at 7p) The battle of undefeated conference teams (4-0, 2-0).... so something has to give here. The explosive play of Tinley Park, who is averaging 49 points per game, has their hands full having to stop Lemont, who has only allowed six points all season. The Titans have been mixing it up effectively on offense and will need to continue that pattern against the Indians. QB Kyle Sheridan (377 yards passing; 194 rushing) and RB Preston Thompson (39, 324) are keys for the Titans. Lemont heavily relies on RB Mike Anzalone (63, 470), though QB Damon Aleman (16-of-36, 341 yards) threw for two touchdowns against T.F. South on Friday. WR Tyler Jay (8, 143) is a top target for Lemont. Providence at St. Rita (Friday - 730p, ME-TV) This should be a running game since both of teams love to run the ball. Providence has a big line anchored by 6-foot-6, 270-pounder Ryan Ward, an Iowa recruit, but couldn't get moving in the right direction last week as they suffered a home lost to Loyola 32-6. The Mustangs run game was stalled too last week as they battled back in to the game against Brother Rice for the win. In the game it may come down to two things: special teams and defense. Bolingbrook at Homewood-Flossmoor (Friday at 730p) The Vikings met their match last week in the SouthWest Suburban Blue conference with their first loss of the year to Lincoln-Way East. This week, it doesn’t get any easier for quarterback Tim Williams and the Vikings as the undefeated Raiders team comes to town. The Raiders have big-timers on both sides of the ball in Florida-bound linebacker Antonio Morrison and junior quarterback Aaron Bailey, who accounted for five touchdowns last week vs. Joliet West. SANDBURG AT LINCOLN-WAY EAST (Friday at 730p) Another battle of undefeated teams (4-0, 2-0) get it on... Sandburg can not afford to trade punches with the Griffins, who are coming off a big victory last week over HF. Sandburg RB Lemonte Booker (31, 283) has been dynamite and QB Anthony Adams (23-of-37, 339) is coming into his own. WR Nick Lehnerer (12, 162) is a sure-handed target for the Eagles, who must find a way to keep the Griffins “O” on the sidelines. That’s a tough chore. East’s D-line of Joel Magrum, Matt Solner, Kevin Bayer and Cody Larson is physical and fast, and as we witnessed, the Griffins can move the ball. RICH CENTRAL AT RICH EAST (Saturday at 1p) Cross-town battle? Both teams have high expectations this season and this week could help one team catapult themselves to glory, while the other team will be handcuffed to a non-movable chair. Over the last couple of weeks, the Olympians have been running the ball more with James Thigpen carrying much of the load. However, Central might benefit more by allowing strong-armed QB Devonte Black (47-of-91, 827 yards) to target the Rockets secondary. East QB Malcolm Miller (10-of-20, 204 yards) has two dependable RBs in Rondell Willingham (74, 492) and Richard White III (57, 356). However, Central must load up against stopping the run and try forcing the Rockets into third-and-long situations. Both teams are coming off of victories and are feeling good about themselves.... Last week: Rich Central 41, Bloom 25; Rich East 30, Riverside-Brookfield 16 Simeon vs. Curie at Gately (Saturday at 7p) The winner of this game not only gets a leg up in the Red Bird section, it also can stake its claim as the Public League’s best team. Simeon (2-2, 1-0) is back on track with Arkansas-bound quarterback Robert Gregory on the mend, rolling to two easy wins after an 0-2 start. Curie is adjusting to life without Iowa recruit Maurice Fleming, whose season and prep career have been cut short by a torn ACL. Other notables.... SATURDAY, SEPT. 24 Kennedy vs. Corliss at Gately, 11 Harlan vs. Raby at Hanson, 12:45 Shepard at Reavis, 1 Joliet West vs. Joliet Central at Joliet Memorial, 1 Bradley-Bourbonnais at Thornwood, 1 Stagg at Thornton, 1 Andrew at Thornridge, 1:30 Gordon Tech at Loyola, 1:30 Hales at Lake Forest Academy, 2 Hubbard vs. Bogan at Gately, 3 Julian vs. Fenger at Eckersall, 4:15 Joliet Catholic vs. Benet at Benedictine, 7:30 UIC Prep at North Lawndale at Lane, 7:30 Will-Cook-Kankakee Youth Association Rivalry Weekend Richton Park @ Matteson (Saturday - 2p) CC Hills @ Park Forest Chicago Heights @ University Park South Holland @ Chicago Eastside @ Kankakee Hazel Crest @ Markham |
