week 2 FORECAST
| After a wonderful and exciting
week of
football, many teams made their names heard around
the State, while others are trying to figure things
out. There was a time when winning your conference was what mattered most. Doing so, punched your ticket to the playoffs. And since conference play normally does not begin until Week 3, whether you won or lost on Week 1 was not that huge of a deal. But that was then. In this era when the top 256 teams in the state record-wise qualify for the postseason, needing five or perhaps six victories over the nine-game schedule, the week 1 results are as important as any game. With that being said, teams who took advantage of their early victory were very wise. |

From a fan’s perspective, that’s a good thing. A game such as Friday night’s contest that featured Joliet Catholic / Carmel, may be as good a game in week 1 as it would have been later in the season. Other teams, such as Mount Carmel, Providence, and even Lincoln-Way North made a BIG statement. ![]() What will week 2 have in store? Who knows but we'll be on the sidelines at many fields this weekend... The Caravan got off to a good start last week on both sides of the ball, while the Mustangs sputtered out the blocks. This will be a good test for both teams... The Mustangs, while rebuilding, have a lot of energy and excitement and if they can hold the Caravan on one side of the field, they should be okay. As for the Caravan, they will send a heavy message to the public league that they are not to be taken lightly. In addition, both teams will be playing on the new field turf of Gately stadium. Last week both teams scored early and often against their competition. The Warriors QB Marcus Terrell was very impressive in his debute. He demonstrated his ability to hold things together under pressure. As for West, QB Kyle Millner isn't one to be overlooked. He threw for three touchdowns in the first half against Joliet Central and the Warriors DBs will be tested. Traditionally Oak Forest has dominated this match-up but Rich Central is professing that this is a new era. Behind the air attack of QB Devonte Black will try to keep the Bengals off-balanced. But if the Olympians are going to have any chance at winning, will have to somehow contain Tevin Coleman. Coleman scored three times last week against Urban Prep. The Rockets are making a name for themselves in the Southland conference and will attempt their winning ways against the Titans by running the ball with Rondell Willingham and Richard White III and chewing as much clock up as possible. On the other side of the ball, Tinley Park's QB Kyle Sheridan is a playmaker - period! Last week he scored twice, once on the ground, once in the air. Should be a close battle. Both teams teams are looking for their first victory - someone will win. This has turned into two neighborhood rivals that leave everything on the field of play in order to secure the victory and bragging rights. Both teams are 1-0... so with the battle of Pulaski kicks off at 730p... if you are going - get there at 630p.
