Harvard bound...
Lavell Brown, senior at Rich South, is headed to Harvard U in the fall. And if you think being accepted to Harvard is enough... stop the presses... Mr. Brown is considering doing a dual course study between Harvard and MIT. At this time, he has his eyes set on two primary interest: business and engineering technology. Even further, in his mid-thirties, he may consider a political career.

His personal slogan he used in order to shape his success so are is "if it has been done before, I can do it too, if not better... but if it has not (been done), I'll be the pioneer." Congratulations and much success!!!!


District 227 Schools Garner National Honors

Congratulations to Rich East High School and Rich Central High School, recognized by U.S. News & World Report’s Annual Rankings of America’s Best High Schools. The 2012 rankings include data on nearly 22,000 public high schools from 49 states and the District of Columbia. Rich East was recognized by U.S. News & World Report as One of America’s Best High Schools in 2009 and again in 2010. District 227 salutes the dedication of the students and staff of Rich East and Rich Central High School and congratulates them on this outstanding national recognition.

Rich Central Student Headed to Indiana Tech
Congratulations to Rich Central senior, Adesola Ibitayo. The graduating senior set the school shot put record and received a full scholarship to Indiana Tech University.

Rich East Stellar Student, Deanna Eaton
Congratulations to Rich East Stellar Student, Deanna Eaton. The college-bound senior has a 3.849 GPA and is ranked 10th out of a class of 203. Eaton received a 26 on the ACT. She has earned two Green and Gold Apple Awards; she is an Illinois State Scholar, a member of the National Honor Society and the French National Honor Society. She is the Senior Class Treasurer, a member of Best Buddies and the Rich East Marching Band Majorettes. “I am happy to say that I will be attending Howard University in Washington, D.C. this fall,” Easton said. “At the moment I plan to major in Biology.” What Eaton enjoys most about Rich East is the people. “I can truly say I gained great friends at East.”

Rich South Girl Track Team Wins Sectionals
Congratulations to the Rich South Girls Track Team and coach Sharon Green and Jim Druetzler. For the first time in decades, the Girls Track Team won the IHSA 2A Sectional Meet hosted by Hillcrest. Every varsity athlete on the team qualified for the IHSA State Finals in their event. Please salute our girls and their coaches.

Rich South Students Recognized by The Illinois Principal’s Association
Rich South is pleased to announce that two students were recognized at the annual suburban Cook County Illinois Principal’s Association Breakfast on May 4th. Payton Head is involved in over 15 extra-curricular activities, including his role as vice-president of the Rich South band and student government vice-president. Payton exhibits excellent leadership and citizenship in his school and community – all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Stephanie Le Nguyen is a member of the Science Club, Key Club, and National Honor Society. She is also a student ambassador, peer mediator, science tutor, varsity soccer player and senior co-director of the Olympic World Flag mural. During her years in high school, she has won a variety of awards, including Outstanding Freshman, the President’s Award for Academic Excellence, a Varsity Soccer Letter “R”, and a consecutive award for outstanding mathematics scholar for three years.

Rich South Band Mural
Thank you to Art Teacher, Jack Mayer and students who designed and created an amazing mural in honor and support of the Rich South band attending the 2012 Olympic Games in London. “This mural is a visual display of what our band represents and the magnitude of what this opportunity is for our school,” said Y.L. Douglas, director of bands for Rich South High School.

Rich Central Athlete Headed to Sheridan College
Congratulations to Rich Central’s Chaz Duson. She’ll head down state to represent Rich Central High School’s track team on the weekend of May 18th. The graduating senior will attend Sheridan College on a full basketball and volleyball scholarship.

Congratulations to CES Special Olympic Team
Congratulations to the CES Special Olympic Track and Field athletes for an amazing job at the Area 7 Spring Games for Special Olympics on Saturday, May 5th at Thornwood High School. The team brought home a total of 19 medals, 9 of which were GOLD! Seven of the gold medal winners have qualified for the State competition, June 15th – 17th at Illinois State University in Bloomington/Normal. Thanks to Coach Balough and Coach Gootz as well as volunteers: Merelda Jeffries, Ellen Schumer, Jen Engemann, Yvette Scott, and Mrs. Goodson, for devoting their entire Saturday to helping our athletes.
